I discovered my love for creative sewing in childhood

My imagination was further encouraged by the various stories I read. One of these stories, in particular, my favourite, was of the fairies that lived in a large tree in the forest. Wanting to be a fairy myself, I set about sewing a shiny blue satin skirt and matching top in the anticipation that once I put it on, I would magically turn into a fairy. As cute and silly as this memory seems, we still have this idea that when we adorn ourselves with something special, we are transformed and become what we hope for.

Creative sewing = fun reprieve

Whenever I needed a new outfit, I simply sewed one. This was usually on the day of the event, with whatever fabric I had on hand. Quite often, my family and friends received handmade gifts of all kinds for the holidays and other special occasions.

The start in 2018

I decided to take the leap and turn my creative passion into a business. Designs By Caralinda Inc. was set up as a sewing company offering custom sewing services including clothing design, alterations, tailored curtains, and cushions. For my first client, I altered her bridal gown, and it turned out beautifully. From then on, I have had the pleasure of working with clients on a wide range of custom-made items.

Year Twenty Twenty

The arrival of the pandemic in 2020 brought with it some restrictions. It affected our in-person services, specifically tailored clothing and certain types of alterations. This was a significant portion of our business, so I had to adjust very quickly to the new environment. From this need, I briefly switched gears and began sewing masks in April 2020.

Moving forward

As I continue to roll with the punches, I am also developing new product ideas designed to add value to your daily living while still offering custom sewing services. We must continue to stay relevant in these times and make our lives easier Thank you for visiting us and we hope to hear from you!
